Association of Italian-Canadian Writers
Associazione Scrittori/Scrittrici Italo-Canadesi
Association des Ecrivain(e)s Italo Canadien(ne)s

Founded in 1986, the Association of Italian Canadian Writers (AICW) is a national non-profit organization run by volunteers. The Association brings together a community of writers, critics and academics who promote the writing and artistic expression of Italian Canadians at home and abroad.

The Association supports the awareness and understanding of the Italian Canadian experience and helps to implement an understanding of our heritage by organizing literary events, creative writing contests, workshops, book launchings, and a biennial national conference.

The AICW publishes a quarterly newsletter in English, French and Italian. Full members are writers who have published at least one book or the equivalent in drama, music (musical score), visual art, filmmaking (screenplay). Associate members are those who wish to support the work of Italian Canadian artists and keep abreast of the community’s evolution in the arts. Full and part-time students are welcome as associate members, as well as organizations and institutions.

Upcoming Book
The Italian community in North America is one of the largest and most established.  The stories told in my second manuscript shed light on the bicultural lives that symbolize home and exile for many of us.  The stories showcased in this collection examine how two cultures, two value systems, have affected us as we balanced the tightrope between the ‘old’ world our parents understood and the ‘new’ world we inherited. Literature invites us to know and see differently, to cultivate a capacity for compassion, open-mindedness and empathy.  By writing our stories, we negotiate a new identity, deciding what we want to accept and what we want to reject.  The future and the creation of a different life for ourselves invite critical reflection.
